Every day, people with disabilities affecting their mobility, vision and hearing struggle to access business, retail stores, offices and other buildings in their communities. And with the growing numbers of people with temporary and permanent disabilities due in part to our aging population, the issue is more important than ever. We need your help making Canada more accessible for all.
In 2018:
50% |
57% |
of Canadian adults have or have experienced a permanent or temporary physical disability, or live with someone who does. |
of Canadians with physical disabilities who are currently unemployed believe they’d be able to work if workplaces were more accessible. |
What can we do?
Supporters of the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) are creating meaningful change for people with disabilities, breaking down barriers in the places where we work, live, learn and play.
Improving Access for All
The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility CertificationTM (RHFAC) program was created to measure and improve physical accessibility in our communities. Through training accessibility professionals across the country, rating buildings and sites from a holistic user experience perspective, and providing accessibility grants, we’re working to create a fully inclusive Canada.
Empowering the Next Generation
The Rick Hansen Foundation School program provides free educational resources for youth from kindergarten to grade twelve. Over the past school year, over 150,000 students across Canada have been empowered to become the next generation of access and inclusion leaders.
Inspiring Leadership
Over the past 30 years, Rick Hansen and the Rick Hansen Foundation have become powerful voices for change, developing, inspiring and accelerating innovations that transform lives. We continue to use our leadership to raise awareness, change attitudes, and meet/partner with others to break down barriers and make the world accessible for all.
