Lesson 4: Accessibility Audit

Students
If a Paralympian came to your school, could they visit your class? Play a game in your gym? Eat lunch with you? It's not something you think about every day, but making sure schools, homes, and work spaces are as accessible as possible goes a long way in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The resources below allow students to complete accessibility audits of their schools and favourite activity spaces.

Working in groups, students choose from vision-, hearing-, and mobility-perspective audits. Each group can be assigned a specific athlete so that they complete their audit from that athlete's perspective and use the athlete to bring each perspective to life.

Students also have the option to use the online resource, planat™, as a way to rate accessible venues, and use its questions instead of the PDFs for lesson 4's activity.
