Schools In Motion

Growing up, my teachers and role models helped build my confidence, and encouraged me to make a difference. Today, I want to return that generosity; to teach youth to reach for their dreams and realize that they can make a positive change in the world.

Help make your community more accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities by organizing a Schools In Motion Event at any time during the school year. Events emphasize awareness and fun, and include a range of possible activities where students can learn about:
  • Rick Hansen’s story, and the Man In Motion World Tour
  • Spinal cord injury, and the need for research and quality of life initiatives
  • The value of giving back to the community, and making a difference in the lives of others
  • Leadership and team-building skills

Consider inviting a Rick Hansen Foundation Speaker to be a part of your Schools In Motion event, or to speak at your school at anytime during the school year. Rick Hansen Foundation Speakers are volunteer speakers with spinal cord injury who share their stories in order to spread the message that any obstacle can be overcome by hard work and determination.

“Rick Hansen somehow empowers us to succeed … we have embraced his dream and made it ours as well.”
– Nancy Deakin, Point Claire, QC

“Rick’s an inspiration to me definitely because his motto is never give up and that’s so important in today’s world, in school and in business, in everything that relates to the world … he inspires me to be better. Our entire school got involved. Everyone was very enthusiastic. Local businesses stepped up big-time.”
– Josh Prashad, Abbotsford, BC
