Rick Hansen Foundation Commends Federal Contributions In 2010 Budget

March 4th 2010

Foundation receives funding to continue ongoing leadership in the field of spinal cord injury research and the search for a cure

The Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) is pleased to have been acknowledged in the 2010 Federal Government Budget, released today.

The 2010 Budget has generously provided $9 million over two years to support RHF, including the 25th Anniversary of the Man In Motion World Tour, and the newly established Rick Hansen Institute (RHI), an international centre of excellence in spinal cord care and research. This funding will contribute to advancing knowledge and research that will improve the lives of people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) in Canada and abroad.

“I am pleased that the Government of Canada has continued its commitment to further advancing progress in the field of Spinal Cord Injury” said Rick Hansen, President & CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation. “The Government has supported us since the beginning of our journey, 25 years ago and I look forward to our to our ongoing relationship.”

The timing of this funding, in advance of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, is yet another example of Canada’s leadership in social change. Over the past decade, Canada has confirmed its role as a global leader in various aspects of spinal cord injury research and service delivery. The Government of Canada’s support has been critical in making this happen.
