Rick Hansen Bungee Jumps with Rick Mercer!

Last September, Rick was invited to do something he had never done before…in fact, something he had never thought of doing before! He was challenged by Rick Mercer to go bungee jumping in beautiful Whistler, BC for the 2009 Season Opener of the Rick Mercer Report on CBC. Both Ricks were excited and very nervous…like two little boys about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime!

For Rick Hansen, the opportunity was one he couldn’t turn down. Though bungee jumping was an intimidating activity, it was also a chance to once again challenge people’s perceptions about what is possible for people with disabilities.

Rick wheeled around the world almost 25 years ago on his Man In Motion World Tour to raise awareness of the potential of people with disabilities and to bring awareness to issues of accessibility and inclusion. Back then, there weren’t even curb cuts or accessible washrooms...but today we’ve advanced to the point where a person in a wheelchair can do almost anything an able-bodied person can...including bungee jumping!
