The Recreation Complex is the only facility of its kind in Prince Rupert and houses the only aquatic centre and arena in town; however, it’s not currently fully accessible. Guests and coaching staff with limited mobility are not able to access both floors, and visitors watching events are relegated to a specific areas, instead of being integrated with the rest of the community.
The Barrier Buster project team will be working on adding accessibility lifts, additional ramps, and auto-operators on the doors to improve accessibility throughout the facility. This update which will ensure that all guests, staff and residents can use and enjoy all areas of the complex.
We need to ensure we’re doing everything we can to help all community members enjoy our facilities to their fullest!
Anyone who enters our recreation complex, including the arena, gymnasium and aquatic centre, will have the opportunity to enjoy all our programming and events.
Knowing that we’re helping to ensure all families can play and participate together.
