La Fondation communautaire de la Péninsule acadienne inc. (FCOMPA) is a non-profit organization that supports the charitable activities of individuals, families, community groups, and corporations that serve the wide variety of needs of the communities in the Acadian Peninsula.
With its grant from the Rick Hansen Foundation, FCOMA is partnering with École Terre des Jeunes to create an intergenerational walking path to connect the school with the nearby seniors’ home, making the area inclusive for the people with disabilities, including children and staff at the school and seniors who live in the home and use wheelchairs or walkers.
We took on the Intergenerational Path Project to provide all community members with a barrier-free green space where they could be physically active, spend quality family time together, and strengthen intergenerational ties. Several activities are already ongoing at the school to allow for exchanges with the elderly at the nearby seniors home, but traffic could only move from school to the manor home. With the path in place, seniors will now be able to easily and safely exit and travel to and from the school.
We want to promote physical activity, positive mental health, healthy and balanced living as well as relaxation. Everyone will now have an equal opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and break the isolation associated with a walker, a wheelchair or other form of disability. People of all ages and abilities will now be able to spend quality time together.
Working toward building a culture of inclusion and fostering the acceptance, recognition and promotion of differences! We are in the process of leaving a tremendous legacy for the community of Paquetville for many years to come. Thanks to this investment, the quality of life of adults and children alike will be enhanced. Now isn’t that gratifying?
