You and the Rick Hansen Foundation: Creating a world without barriers
In 1985, Rick Hansen set out on the Man In Motion World Tour; a 26 month, 34 country, 40,000 km wheelchair marathon to create awareness of the potential of people with disabilities and to raise money to remove barriers. Gathering global attention and incredible support, the Tour changed the way people with disabilities are perceived.
The Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF), established in 1988, is part of the Tour’s legacy. For almost four decades, RHF has removed barriers, changed attitudes, and funded spinal cord injury research and care.
These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our donors.
Globally, over 1.3 billion adults identify as having a disability, including roughly one in four Canadians - a number that continues to grow as our population ages. Because of the support of people like you, RHF is leading, innovating, and collaborating to continue to break down the most fundamental barriers that people with disabilities face:
- Physical barriers in the places where we live, work, learn, and play.
- Attitudinal barriers in our society, schools, and businesses.
- Barriers related to outdated systems, laws, and policies.
Our Mission
To inspire, create and deliver innovative solutions that accelerate a global movement to remove barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities.
Our Vision
People with disabilities are thriving in an accessible, inclusive and healthy world.
While much has been accomplished, the journey is only just beginning. Join us to build a more accessible world.
Strategic Plan
This plan ensures we will emerge stronger in our ability to remove barriers, accelerate change and fuel the movement to create a world for everyone, everywhere.
