Building a healthy, inclusive world
Welcome to our Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) Blog. We are excited about the opportunity to bring you current stories and information about our new programs and initiatives.
Twenty-five years ago, when Rick finished his Man In Motion World Tour, he was determined to continue his quest for truly accessible and inclusive communities. Along with his team, Rick got to work and appealed to government to sanction a week dedicated to further raising awareness for the potential of people with disabilities. In 1988, Rick’s hard work paid off and National Access Awareness Week (NAAW) was established – bringing together business, labour and government organizations to influence meaningful change in the daily lives of persons living with disabilities.
May 29 to June 4, 2011 marks National Access Awareness Week. Communities across Canada are recognizing NAAW by organizing a variety of activities and events aimed at furthering NAAW’s goals: assessing accessibility of services and facilities, establishing measurable outcomes, making practical improvements and celebrating achievements in the areas of accessible transportation, housing, employment, recreation, education and communication.
