On April 25, 2010 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, a sold-out gala celebration in honour of Dr. Phil Switzer raised $1.8 million in support of spinal cord injury initiatives. Dr. Switzer, a radiologist, was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor in 2008 and just months after surgery and rehabilitation, was back on his feet again, seeing patients and participating in his favourite activities of cycling, golfing and skiing.
A collaboration between the Rick Hansen Foundation, the University of British Columbia and the Friends of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, this event showcased the incredible strides achieved so far in spinal cord research as well as exciting new innovations that bring us closer to a cure for spinal cord injury.
