It was a great weekend to be on the water at Langara Fishing Lodge in beautiful Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. June 11-14, 2011 marked the 14th edition of the Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge (RHFC) – an annual fundraising event benefitting the Rick Hansen Foundation.
Once again this year’s Challenge was a great success with many new guests joining the RHFC alumni in support of Foundation programs. First-timer Glenn Barrick, was the overall winner of the Rick Hansen Fishing Challenge, landing a 42.5 lbs salmon. Not only was it Glenn’s first time participating in the Challenge, it was also his first West Coast fishing experience.
Through their shared passion for the sport of fishing, unrelenting commitment to the protection of our precious ecosystem and dedication to making the world a more inclusive and accessible place, this year’s participants have successfully raised $160,000 to accelerate progress toward a healthier, more accessible and inclusive world.
Since 1998, the RHFC at Langara Fishing Lodge has benefitted salmon conservation by directing a portion of proceeds – nearly $150,000 – to the Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF). These funds have supported volunteer programs across the provinces that address salmon conservation and habitat renewal.
