Donation will advance Vision of an accessible and inclusive world
(Vancouver, BC) – The Rick Hansen Foundation(RHF), a leader in accessibility and spinal cord injury research, announced today that a $1 million funding pledge has been received by the Yuel Family and PIC Investment Group, a private venture capital corporation headed by Greg Yuel, President, CEO, and Partner. The multi-year funding will be received overa period of five years commencing in April, 2013.
The$1 million pledge will support the activities of the Foundation, and a portion has been allocated to the Rick Hansen School Program. School Program funding will focus on inspiring young people across Canada to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others – particularly in the province of Saskatchewan, where PIC Investment Group and the Yuel family have a large presence in the business community.
“I continue to be inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment of the Yuel family and PIC Investment Group to support youth in Canada as well as those living with disabilities in our communities,” said Rick Hansen. “Much like the Man In Motion World Tour, achieving a dream takes an amazing team, and we are very thankful for the support of PIC Investment Group and the Yuel family, Greg, his wife Olivia and father James, who are long-time supporters of Rick and the Foundation’s vision for a healthy and inclusive world. We invite all Canadians to get involved; together, we can make this dream a reality.”
“We are very honoured to be involved with the Rick Hansen Foundation and know that many people will continue to be inspired by Rick’s amazing story and support this important cause,” says Greg Yuel. “Rick’s inspiring leadership in creating a world where everyone is included, especially for young people, is a value the PIC Group shares, and Rick Hansen’s efforts to bring attention to the needs of those with disabilities around the world is equally inspiring,” says Yuel, who joined Rick during RHF’s 25th Anniversary World Tour in China in 2011. “PIC Investment Group is thrilled to be able to support Rick and the Foundation's exemplary work.”
The leadership of Rick Hansen as a social innovator has led to the Foundation’s ability to find collaborative solutions to challenges in the community and the resources necessary to implement those solutions. The $1 million will help RHF fortify its commitment to advance its vision of an accessible and inclusive world, and find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
